Black Stars winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has revealed that criticism from teammates and fans will never stop him from unleashing long-range efforts, insisting his self-belief is what fuels one of the most exciting parts of his game.
The Leicester City forward has built a reputation for testing goalkeepers from distance with fierce strikes, and says that confidence, rather than outside opinion, is what gives him the courage to keep shooting whenever the opportunity presents itself.
"I know I have power, so I think it's just the confidence I give to myself, and I don't care about what people say," Fatawu told the GFA.
The 22-year-old admitted that failed attempts often attract criticism, with teammates questioning his decision-making when possession is lost. However, he insists those moments never affect his mindset because he believes his next effort could make the difference.
"Sometimes I get bullied by teammates or someone if I try to do it and it's not working. Everyone will be shouting, 'Why did you do that? You just lost the ball for nothing.' But I always have the confidence because I know I can do it, so I always do it."
Fatawu added that the same people who question his shots are quick to celebrate whenever they find the net.
Away from football, the Ghana international described himself as a proud "mummy's boy", revealing he speaks to his mother before and after every match.
"My mum always feels happy, and I feel even happier making her happy," he said, adding that she even analyses his performances and jokingly refers to her as "the coach."
