Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku has called for Ghana to be more threatening in attack after the team crashed out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Round of 32 stage following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
Competing in his first World Cup, Opoku delivered another top performance for Ghana but was left frustrated by the team's blunt attack.
Jhon Arias's 14th-minute goal proved the difference as Ghana failed to register a single shot on target across 90 minutes.
Speaking in a post-game interview with Sporty TV, Opoku did not hold back his frustrations.
"We can defend, defend, but if we don't get that one goal to relieve pressure off the defence, then it's not possible [to win]," he said.
"You just need that one goal to relieve the pressure."
The 26-year-old centre-back, who played every minute of Ghana's World Cup campaign, was careful not to overstep when asked about the attacking struggles.
"I am not a coach, so I will leave that to the coaches," Opoku said.
"I'm just trying to do my job; we are a team, we stick together."
The defeat means Ghana missed out on a Round of 16 clash against Switzerland, who advanced from the other side of the bracket.
Ghana finished the tournament with one win, one draw and two defeats, scoring just two goals in four matches.
For Opoku and his teammates, the focus now shifts to building on the defensive foundations laid in the United States while addressing the attacking shortcomings that ultimately proved costly.
