Accra Shooting Stars grabbed the attention of fans of German side Spvgg Erkenschwick after an impressive display during a friendly against the Oberliga side.
The Ghanaian side, featuring their U19 team, lost 3-1 to the German outfit but were nothing short of excitement after producing a mature performance against their opponents.
The team is preparing for the Gothia Cup in Sweden and looks ready for the youth competition which will be featuring top clubs and scouts across the globe.
In a game played in three halves of 30 minutes, Accra Shooting Stars gave the technical handlers of Spvgg a good test, with the first stanza ending goalless.
The well-drilled Shooting Stars caused problems for the German side and should they have taken their chances, they would have ended the first half leading with a couple of goals.
However, after a series of changes by Spvgg, they took the lead in the second half but Accra Shooting Stars levelled through Kwerku Boadu before succumbing to two more goals later.
Head coach of Spvgg Nassir Maylar acknowledged the display of Accra Shooting Stars, claiming they gave them a game that even an Oberliga side might struggle to give them.
"We will probably hardly face an opponent in the Oberliga who has a better transitional game than these boys from Ghana. Therefore, it was a very good friendly match for us. In the opening minutes, I really feared they would run us over," he said after the match.
Accra Shooting Stars recently partnered German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, where the two clubs engage in exchange programmes for their youth teams.
"The boys are currently training with us and will be participating in a major tournament in Gothenburg, Sweden, next week. Actually, they wanted to play a friendly match in Norway before that. However, there were issues with entry and visas. That's why I asked Nassir Malyar – and he was immediately on board," said Michael Rutten, the Heard of Coaching department of Dortmund's youth team.
Meanwhile, Shooting Stars will be facing Swedish side Stala IF in their opening game at the Gothia Cup on July 13 before engaging French side FC MNVDB 2 on July 14. They will round up their group stage with a game against Lunden OBK on July 15.
