Leeds United focus goalkeeper search on Parma's Zion Suzuki

Leeds United have set their sights on Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as they search for a new first-choice keeper ahead of the new season.

After deciding not to extend Karl Darlow’s contract, the veteran has since joined Manchester United; the Yorkshire club are now targeting a long-term solution between the posts.

Italian outlet Tuttomercato reports that Leeds are focusing their efforts on Suzuki, who currently plays for Parma in Serie A. The 24-year-old has grown into a reliable, athletic shot-stopper in Italy, impressing with his reflexes, command of the area and calm distribution from the back, attributes that fit well with Leeds’ desire to build from defence.

Previously, Leeds were strongly linked with Swedish keeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, but local newspaper Yorkshire Post recently indicated that he is no longer being considered as an option. Suzuki and Widell Zetterstrom actually faced each other at the World Cup when Japan met Sweden in a group-stage clash that ended 1–1, with Suzuki starting every match for his country during the tournament.

Suzuki joined Parma from Urawa Red Diamonds in 2024 and has also spent time on loan at Belgian side Sint-Truiden, gaining valuable European experience that now makes him an appealing target for Leeds.
