Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has revealed the reason for his permanent transfer to Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers in the current summer window.
The former Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion full-back joins the Championship club as a free agent after parting ways with Italian side Fiorentina, following an unsuccessful spell.
His spell in Italy was ruined by injury setbacks, playing just 25 minutes throughout the 2025/26 football campaign for the club.
Ahead of the new campaign, the Black Stars defender has swiftly secured a move, joining Queens Park Rangers, who are keen on making a meaningful impact next season.
Impressed by the teams’ project, Lamptey opted to join Queens Park Rangers at the expense of other interested clubs.
“I'm excited for the opportunity ahead. When I spoke to the gaffer and Christian (Nourry), the project was an encouraging one.
“The team have ambitious goals for this season, so I'm looking forward to it.” He said
Born locally in Hillingdon, Lamptey came through the ranks at Chelsea, making his Premier League debut against Arsenal in 2019 before joining fellow top-flight side Brighton & Hove Albion in 2020.
He made more than 120 appearances for the Seagulls before his switch to Italy 12 months ago.
Lamptey, who represented Ghana at the 2022 World Cup has made 11 appearances for the West African football powerhouse.
Having struggled in the past year, the pacey full-back is determined to rediscover his form that made him such a hot property during his time on the south coast.
