Frank Junior Adjei saves Hammarby with late equaliser against Anderlecht

Frank Junior Adjei was the difference-maker for Hammarby, scoring a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw against Anderlecht in the Europa League qualifier.

The Ghanaian midfielder’s goal came in the 90th minute after Hammarby had spent most of the night chasing the game.

Anderlecht struck early through Danylo Sikan in the 7th minute and looked comfortable for long stretches, but Hammarby kept pressing and were rewarded after Adjei came off the bench in the 87th minute. Just three minutes later, he finished from the centre of the box to send the home crowd into celebration.

Hammarby controlled much of the match, finishing with 56 percent possession compared to Anderlecht’s 44. They also created more chances, with 12 total shots and 6 on target, while Anderlecht managed 6 shots and 4 on target.

The result leaves the tie finely balanced heading into the return leg in Belgium. Adjei’s influence will also be important domestically, with Hammarby next facing Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan on July 26.
