Bibiani Gold Stars have expressed strong interest in signing former Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.
The former Ghana Premier League champions are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season and have identified the 27-year-old as a key target.
Opoku's second stint with Asante Kotoko is expected to end this summer. According to an exclusive report by Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio, Director of Football Stanley Menzo and head coach Eric Tinkler have advised the striker to find a new club, explaining that they cannot guarantee him a place in the squad they are building for the 2026/27 campaign.
The decision, which came less than a year after Opoku returned to the Porcupine Warriors, follows an allegation of gross misconduct, although no further details about the alleged issue have been made public.
Opoku rejoined Kotoko in the summer of 2025 on a two-and-a-half-year contract after spells with Algerian giants USM Alger and Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga.
He had previously enjoyed a productive first spell with the club during the 2020/21 campaign, scoring six goals and providing three assists in just 16 matches.
However, his second spell in Kumasi was affected by persistent injury setbacks during the 2025/26 season. Despite those difficulties, Opoku still found the net four times in 16 appearances.
GoldStars believe Opoku's experience and proven goal-scoring record in the Ghanaian top flight could be a valuable addition to their attacking department.
While Opoku's future remains uncertain, with no formal transfer agreement yet reached, the interest from GoldStars suggests that the forward will have options as he looks to revive his career ahead of the new season.
