Former Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Poku is close to joining newly promoted FC AshantiGold 04 as the Miners step up preparations for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, GHANAsoccernet.com can report
The experienced forward has left Kotoko and is now in advanced talks with AshantiGold over a move that could see him return to the Ghana Premier League with the newly promoted side.
Poku is expected to become one of the notable additions to the AshantiGold squad as the club strengthens its playing personnel ahead of their return to Ghana's top flight.
The former Ghana U23 international returned to Kotoko in the summer of 2025 on a free transfer after previous spells with USM Alger and Olympique Khouribga.
He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors.
However, his second spell at Kotoko produced four goals in 16 appearances during the 2025/26 season.
Poku had enjoyed an impressive return to the Ghana Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances before securing his move to Kotoko.
AshantiGold are keen to add experience and goals to their squad as they prepare for the demands of Premier League football, and Poku's familiarity with the competition makes him an attractive option for the club.
The Miners' interest comes at a time when Kotoko are undergoing a major squad overhaul under head coach Eric Tinkler and Director of Football Stanley Menzo.
While Poku's move to AshantiGold is yet to be officially completed, negotiations are understood to be at an advanced stage, with the two parties close to reaching an agreement.
If the deal is finalized, Poku will be expected to play a key role as AshantiGold make their return to the Ghana Premier League and look to establish themselves among the country's top clubs.
