Ghana defender Alidu Seidu expected to leave Rennes amid Marseille interest

Ghana defender Alidu Seidu is expected to leave Rennes before the close of the transfer window, with Marseille pushing to sign the 26-year-old.

Seidu has not trained with Rennes in recent days as he considers his future at the club.

Marseille have already made an offer for the defender, but Rennes are demanding more, leaving negotiations between the two Ligue 1 clubs at a standstill.

Rennes have placed Seidu, Djaoui Cissé and Breel Embolo on the transfer list and have told the trio to resolve their futures before the transfer deadline.

Seidu remains under contract with Rennes until June 2029 after extending his deal in 2025.

The Ghana international joined Rennes from Clermont Foot in 2024 and has become an important defensive option when fit. He made 24 appearances across all competitions last season.

Marseille's interest could now provide Seidu with an opportunity to remain in Ligue 1 while taking on a new challenge.

However, Marseille will need to improve their proposal if they are to reach an agreement with Rennes, who are holding out for a higher fee.

For now, talks remain stalled, but Seidu is increasingly expected to leave Rennes before the transfer window closes.
