KRC Genk Head of Football Dimitri de Conde has expressed confidence in Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie's long-term potential, stating that the Belgian club will provide the right environment for the 19-year-old to grow after his five-year move from Al Qadsiah.
"He is also still very young, and we will provide him with the right environment to continue his development," de Conde said .
Afriyie, who turns 20 on August 24, returns to Belgium after impressing on loan at RAAL La Louviere during the 2025/26 season, where he scored five goals and provided two assists in 34 appearances. Genk are reported to have paid around â¬6 million to secure his permanent transfer.
De Conde had earlier praised the forward's work ethic, stating, "Jerry is a player with an incredible amount of energy. Whatever he does, he gives 100%. That fits perfectly with the intensity we want to see at KRC Genk."
The 6ft 1in forward is described as a versatile attacker capable of playing on either wing, through the middle, or behind the striker. His pace, explosiveness, and ability to cause problems in one-on-one situations are seen as key assets.
Afriyie, who has earned four caps for Ghana and scored on his debut, won the Odartey Lamptey Future Star award in 2025 as Ghana's best young player and was also top scorer for the U20 national team.
He will now hope to build on his progress as Genk aim to integrate him into their first team, with the club believing he is "an excellent addition to the current squad, both now and for the future".
