Maxwell Woledzi scores late winner as Nashville edge New York Red Bulls

Ghanaian defender Mexwell Woledzi became the hero of the night in Harrison, New Jersey, after powering home the winner for Nashville SC late in the MLS game against New York Red Bulls. 

The red-hot centre-back rose high to head home from a Cristian Espinoza freekick and steal all three points for the visitors on a humid night on the east coast.

Arguably the best signing of the MLS in 2026, Woledzi also ensured the Boys in Gold kept a clean sheet.

Following a tensed first half, both sides failed to break the deadlock despite creating decent chances.

Nashville, the Eastern Conference leaders, enjoyed a fair share of possession and eventually made it count through the former FC Nordsjaelland player.

Meanwhile, Woledzi's compatriot Abdul Shakur Mohammed saw 62 minutes and was replaced by Espinoza who delivered the assist for the winner.

For New York Red Bulls, Ghanaian teammates Ronald Donkor and Mohammed Sofo also featured for the home side. Donkor started while Sofo came off the bench for Red Bulls.
