Bibiani GoldStars CEO Kwasi Adu has urged Medeama to make thorough preparations if they are to overcome TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League and advance to the next stage.
The Ghanaian champions face the five-time African champions in the first preliminary round, with the opening leg scheduled for September 5 at the newly renovated TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The return fixture will be played a week later at the Stade du TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi, where Medeama will face the intimidating atmosphere of the Congolese giants’ home ground.
Adu believes Medeama’s preparations, both on and off the pitch, will be crucial to their chances of upsetting the experienced continental side.
He has urged the Ghanaian champions to pay close attention to player management, motivation and travel arrangements ahead of the two-legged tie.
"Playing in Africa is a different, different element altogether, you know. Ghanaian clubs have recently failed to compete in the Champions League—recently it was Medeama themselves who did well and Dreams who did well."
"My basic worry is about when they are to play TP Mazembe. They need to prepare so well. If they do their groundwork very well, if they manage their players well, they motivate the players well and they plan well in all their travel, they can upset TP Mazembe."
Adu believes Medeama should not be intimidated by Mazembe’s reputation, despite their formidable history in African football.
"It is not like the TP Mazembe that we used to know, but trust me, they won the league like Medeama have also won the league. So we shouldn't underrate each other; you must fight hard and meet them squarely."
