Nigerian referee Joseph Odey Ogabor has been appointed to officiate Medeama SC’s CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg clash against TP Mazembe, despite having previously served a one-year ban from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for match manipulation.
The match is scheduled for September 6, 2026, at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, with kick-off at 15:00 GMT.
Ogabor will be assisted by compatriots Tejiri Besmart Digbori and Ahmad Tijjani Mustapha, while Salisu Basheer will serve as the fourth official.
Gambian Bakary K. Jammeh has been appointed Match Commissioner, with Ivorian Sinko Zeli serving as Referee Assessor.
Ogabor was banned by CAF for one year in 2018 after being found to have offered a $30,000 payment to South African officials led by referee Victor Gomes to provide technical assistance to Nigerian club Plateau United during their CAF Confederation Cup match against USM Alger.
Despite that history, Ogabor has now been appointed to oversee the opening leg of Medeama’s continental campaign.
The fixture will mark the start of the competitive season for the reigning Ghana Premier League champions, who will be hoping to secure a strong home result against the experienced Congolese side.
The return leg is scheduled for September 12, 2026, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
