New Asante Kotoko left-back Umar Ali says joining the club fulfils a dream shared by many young footballers in Ghana.
The 22-year-old expressed his pride after completing his move to the Porcupine Warriors on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.
“I am proud to have this opportunity to play for Ghana’s biggest football club. Every young boy who has a dream of becoming a footballer here in Ghana always dreams of playing for Kotoko and I count myself as one of the lucky ones,” Ali said.
Ali joins Kotoko from UAE Pro League side Banyias, where he made 21 league appearances and provided four assists during the 2024/25 season.
The versatile defender, who can also play at left centre-back, admitted that he is entering unfamiliar territory after never playing in the Ghana Premier League.
“Although I have not played in the Ghana league before, most of the players I have met here have told me what it takes to be successful here, and I am really looking forward to the start of the season,” he added.
Ali will now compete for a place in Kotoko’s defence as the club prepares for the new campaign under head coach Eric Tinkler.
