Brandon Thomas-Asante has emphasised the fact that his teammate Caleb Yirenkyi was already a hot cake on the market before Conventry City finally captured him.
Yirenkyi arrived at Coventry in a club-record deal from FC Nordsjælland and has already made a significant impact, providing assists in both pre-season and competitive action.
But according to Thomas-Asante, the move was shaped by a conversation that took place while both Ghanaian players were on international duty.
"I don't take too much credit, maybe a little. Frank Lampard called me during the World Cup and he was very honest with his appreciation for Caleb and asked me for my opinions on him," Thomas-Asante told Premier League TV.
"The club were aware of his talent and many clubs across the world."
The revelation underscores the trust Lampard placed in Thomas-Asante's judgement, as well as the growing influence of the Ghanaian contingent at Coventry. Thomas-Asante had already shared a pitch with Yirenkyi for Ghana during their historic World Cup campaign, where he provided the assist for Yirenkyi's dramatic stoppage-time winner against Panama.
Those shared experiences gave Thomas-Asante unique insight into his teammate's character and ability.
"I call him the modern N'Golo Kante," he said. "He's so quiet and keeps himself to himself. However, he is a really confident character. He is quietly confident."
Yirenkyi has already shown glimpses of his potential at Coventry, providing an assist on his unofficial debut against Monaco, starting the Premier League opener against Arsenal, and contributing a key assist in the League Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle.
With Coventry's Premier League campaign now underway, the Ghanaian duo will be hoping to continue their strong partnership and help the Sky Blues make an impact in the top flight.
