Danish-born Ghanaian defender Jonas Jensen-Abbew joins ADO Den Haag on long-term deal

Danish-born Ghanaian defender Jonas Jensen-Abbew has completed a move to Dutch side ADO Den Haag, signing a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2030.

ADO Den Haag confirmed the arrival of the 24-year-old central defender after reaching an agreement with Danish club AGF Aarhus for his transfer.

The move represents another significant step in the career of the versatile defender, who has developed through the Danish football system.

Jensen-Abbew spent a significant part of his youth career at FC Nordsjaelland, where he progressed through the ranks before making his senior debut in the Danish top flight in October 2021.

During the 2022/23 season, he gained valuable first-team experience during a loan spell at HB Køge, before returning to Nordsjaelland.

In February 2024, Jensen-Abbew joined AGF Aarhus, where he established himself as an important member of the squad.

Last season, he made 44 official appearances for the Danish club and also gained valuable European experience by featuring in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Born in Denmark to Ghanaian parents, Jensen-Abbew has represented Denmark at several youth levels, including the Denmark Under-21 national team.

His versatility is expected to be an asset for ADO Den Haag, as he is capable of operating both at centre-back and at full-back.

ADO Den Haag Technical Director Mark Wotte expressed his excitement over the signing, highlighting the club's belief in the defender's potential.

“Jonas came to our attention through our scouting network and was subsequently thoroughly evaluated by technical management. With his arrival, we are adding a central defender to our squad who can also play at full-back,” Wotte said.

“We see a lot of growth potential in Jonas and believe that he can develop further at ADO Den Haag. In addition, he is very ambitious and motivated to compete for a spot and prove himself here.”

The Dutch club believes Jensen-Abbew's arrival will strengthen its defensive options while providing the player with an environment to continue his development.

With a contract running until 2030, ADO Den Haag have demonstrated their long-term belief in the Danish-born Ghanaian defender as he begins a new chapter of his career in the Netherlands.
