Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Addo believes the meeting with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) provides a good platform for both institutions to coordinate their efforts and end Ghana football’s long absence from the Olympic Games.
The Meteors last qualified in 2004 while the Queens have never qualified.
The two bodies held a high-level strategic meeting with the management team of the Black Queens and technical leadership of the Black Meteors as part of preparations for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The meeting focused on the qualification routes for both teams and the need for closer collaboration between the GFA and GOC, which has overall oversight of Ghana’s participation in the Games.
Addo said the GFA’s involvement in Olympic football makes engagement with the GOC necessary as both institutions seek to maximise Ghana’s chances of qualification.
“The Ghana Football Association would have an involvement in the Olympic Games, both on the women’s side through the Black Queens and then the U23 side, the Black Meteors.
“And so, it’s really prudent and good for us to come and engage our Olympics Committee, which has overall oversight of the Games in Ghana, so that we can piggyback on the plans and all the efforts being made.”
The Black Meteors will target qualification for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the finalists will secure Olympic qualification.
The Black Queens will begin their qualifying campaign on Thursday against Mauritius, with both teams targeting places at Los Angeles 2028.
