The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) , Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has promoted 19 senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in recognition of their distinguished service to the nation.
In addition, over 100 personnel from the other ranks of the Ghana Police Service have been elevated to various ranks for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifices in the line of duty.
The promotions were announced on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, during the commissioning and official inauguration of the Ghana Police Music Academy Centenary Hall in Accra.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, the IGP described the occasion as historic, noting that it went beyond the unveiling of a new facility to reflect a strategic philosophy of modern policing that embraces music as a tool for discipline, national cohesion, public confidence, and security.
He emphasized that music plays a universal role in human life, offering comfort in difficult moments and enhancing joy during celebrations, and added that its integration into policing strengthens public trust and morale within the Service.
According to the IGP, effective security management in contemporary times is no longer measured solely by enforcement capacity but also by discipline, communication, cultural relevance, and public engagement.
He said the establishment of the Ghana Police Music Academy positions Ghana as a regional hub for professional and structured security music training in West Africa and beyond.
The IGP noted that the commissioning of the facility during the Christmas season was symbolic, as the period reflects values of peace, sacrifice, and service—principles that align with the core mandate of the Ghana Police Service.
He paid tribute to officers and men across the country for their sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property, particularly during the festive season, stressing that the nature of police work demands constant vigilance and professionalism.
The IGP expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project and urged band personnel to make full use of the academy to enhance excellence and professionalism, with the aim of making the Police Band one of the best in the sub-region.
“As we move into the new year, let us continue to build a Ghana Police Service that is operationally strong, culturally grounded, publicly engaged, and internationally respected,” he stated.
After his speech, he formally commissioned and declared open the Ghana Police Music Academy Centenary Hall, expressing hope that it would serve as a centre of excellence for discipline, professionalism, national cohesion, and the promotion of peace and security through music.
