An Accra Circuit Court sitting at Dansoman has granted bail to a 30-year-old bookman based at the Neoplan station in Accra has been accused of biting off part of a tea vendor’s nose during a fight at the Neoplan lorry station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Abdul Malik Mohammed, the accused, pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing unlawful harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The court, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, a High Court judge sitting with additional responsibility as a Circuit Court judge, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with two sureties.
As part of the bail conditions, Abdul Malik Mohammed is to deposit his Ghana Card at the court registry and report to the police once every two weeks until otherwise directed by the court.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, did not oppose the bail application but prayed the court to impose conditions that would compel the accused to appear for trial.
The court further directed the prosecution to file disclosures and witness statements ahead of a Case Management Conference.
According to the brief facts presented by the prosecution, the complainant, Abdul Wahab Yakubu, is a tea vendor who operates at the Neoplan lorry station and resides around Kwame Nkrumah Circle. The accused, also a bookman, resides at ‘Ecomog’ in the same area.
On September 15, 2025, at about 6:00 a.m., the complainant was selling tea at the Neoplan lorry station when he saw the accused passing by. The complainant reportedly reminded the accused of a cup of tea he had earlier taken on credit and asked him to settle the debt.
The request allegedly led to a misunderstanding, which escalated into a fight. In the course of the scuffle, the prosecution said the accused bit the complainant’s nose, resulting in a deep cut on the right side of the complainant’s nose.
The matter was reported to the Neoplan Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused.
In his caution statement to the police, the accused denied biting the complainant, but admitted that a fight ensued between them, claiming he only later heard that the complainant had sustained an injury.
After investigations, the accused was charged and arraigned before the court. The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
