The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, has sentenced a 31-year-old unemployed man to nine months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing at Makola Market.
The convict, Sampson Kwabena Ebo, entered a guilty simpliciter plea to a charge of stealing last week.
Presenting the facts before the court, the prosecution said the complainant, Theresa Ocansey, a businesswoman, resides at Amamoli in Accra, while Ebo lives at Konkomba, also in Accra.
According to the prosecution, the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police intercepted CCTV footage from the complainant’s shop at Makola Market.
The footage showed a young man entering the shop and dishonestly appropriating a Nokia HD Android mobile phone valued at GH¢3,000.00, a ladies’ handbag valued at GH¢550.00 and pieces of clothing valued at GH¢350.00.
The items were valued at a total of GH¢3,900.00. An unspecified amount of cash was also reported missing.
Upon reviewing the footage, a police team was tasked to place the convict under surveillance. Acting on intelligence, the team proceeded to Konkomba Market on February 10, 2026 where Sampson Kwabena Ebo was arrested.
The prosecution told the court that during interrogation, Ebo was shown the CCTV footage and admitted being the individual captured in the video. He further confessed to stealing the items from the complainant’s shop.
Investigations revealed that the accused sold the stolen mobile phone to a man identified only as Baba for GH¢500.00. He also told police that he discarded the ladies’ handbag and the pieces of clothing after the theft.
Further investigations, the prosecution said, indicated that Sampson Kwabena Ebo operated with accomplices who targeted shops during busy business hours with the intention of stealing sales and valuables.
Police subsequently visited Baba’s place of business, but he reportedly escaped arrest.
The prosecution noted that efforts are underway to apprehend him.
After investigations, Sampson Kwabena Ebo was charged and arraigned before the court, where he admitted the offence.
Her Honour Susana Eduful, after accepting the guilty plea, convicted Sampson Kwabena Ebo on his own plea and sentenced him to nine months’ imprisonment.
