A senior Cadre and founding member of the erstwhile June 4th Movement has jumped to the defence of the President John Dramani Mahama, over allegations of neglect of Cadre by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Comrade Clement Sangaparee, reacting to recent concerns raised by the Concerned Cadres in Ashanti region, emphasised that President John Mahama is innocent of the charge of negligence.
“Mahama is innocent. The onus rests with Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the current National chairman of the party, who is also a hard core Cadre, to plead with the President to seek the welfare of Cadre “, Comrade Sangaparee pleaded.
He said Cadres might be a spent force, but their dependants (children) could be employed and engaged in labour exchange programmes for them to cater for the needs and welfare of the old guards.
According to the 75-year-old Cadre, as a liaison between the Government and the Cadres, who are obliged to protect the ideals of the party, Chairman Asiedu Nketia should cooperate with the Cadre corps to encourage the youth to push the resetting agenda of the government.
He suggested that the party, through the National chairman of the party, could liaise with appointees to also initiate interventions that seek the welfare of cadres.
Comrade Sanagaparee said Cadres in the current democratic dispensation should consider themselves as volunteers, by assisting the MMDCEs and CEOs at the local levels, and other appointees to champion the goals of the government.
According to the senior Cadre, about 15 million Cadres nationwide are ready to work for the government, in spite of the fact that most of them have been persecuted for their political leanings over the years, citing his example of when he was declared redundant on the alleged advice of the Kufuor administration.
He also said he was among 108 miners who were dismissed at Obuasi in 1980 on the advice of the then Minister of Presidential Affairs.
These developments notwithstanding, Comrade Sangaparee advised colleague Cadres to take a cue from his 46 years experience and remain in the party and help, stressing that when Ghana is fully reset Ghanaians, including Cadres, would benefit directly or indirectly.
He encouraged them not to be daunted by the now seeming tradition that the services of Cadres are much needed when the NDC is in the opposition, but neglected when in power.
