Manhyia South MP donates relief items to Fire Victims

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Esq., last Sunday visited victims of the tragic fire that engulfed the last floor of a four-storey building situated at AshTown, near the Manhyia Palace, on Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2026.

The fire, which caused extensive damage, left eight households devastated and struggling to cope with the aftermath.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially established, but the landlords, referencing eye-witness account indicated that the fire was started when a child ignited a gas cooker.

The MP inspected the site of the incident and commiserated with the victims, upon which he also donated food items such as bags of rice, boxes of tin tomatoes and vegetable oil.

Baffour Awuah further pledged to support the eight victims with GHC20,000 (GHC2,500 each) from the MPs share of the Common Fund, as well as supporting the Landlady with GHC2,000 (for the electrical wiring) and roofing sheets for the rehabilitation of the affected floor.

Speaking with the media, Baffour Awuah indicated that it was essential for him to visit the victims who are his constituents. “I cannot forsake them (victims) in their times of need and later come to garner votes from them during the election period”, the MP noted.

The MP further stressed the need to educate the people about fire outbreaks and their prevention, hinting that soon the constituency, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, will begin an educational exercise within the constituency.

Nana Baffour Awuah, Esq., urged the citizenry to be wary of the use of gas and electrical appliances to prevent fire outbreaks.
