Surgeons at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have suspended new emergency admissions.
The decision takes effect from September 12, 2017.
A letter intercepted by Ultimate News issued by the residents and directorate of surgery on Tuesday indicates that the decision was borne out of lack of doctors at the facility.
The letter signed by the various surgeons written to the chief executive officer indicated that further admissions will endanger the lives of patients and impede quality health care.
‘We would like to put on record that this was anticipated by all residents of the hospital and management was notified in writing two weeks ago. Unfortunately, management is yet to communicate a response,’ the letter said.
Meanwhile, the Medical director has been on leave since September 8, 2017, but it is unclear as to whether his leave has any correlation with the suspension of emergency admissions or not.

KATH woes continue to deepen as junior doctors weeks ago threatened to embark on a strike due to their unpaid salaries.
