Confusion has emerged at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti regional elections as Manhyia North Constituency executives were denied opportunity to vote following a court injunction on the constituency election.
The 1st National Vice Chairman F. F Antoh who is a member of the regional elections committee prevented the Manhyia North constituency executives from taking part in the Congress which led to the confusion.
He action was borne out of an interlocutory injunction secured by two residents of the Manhyia North Constituency restraining seven executive members from voting in the elections.
The misunderstanding delayed the regional elections.
It took the intervention of police personnel, party security men and Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei- Mensah to calm down the tension.
The Manhyia North constituency Organizer Nana Kwame speaking in an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo accused the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North constituency Collins Owusu Amankwaa of been behind the action.
He warned to resist any attempt to stop them from taking part in the regional elections.
The executives accused F. F Anto of being behind the internal wrangling which is affecting the party in the region.
Meanwhile, the MP Manhyia North Constituency Collins Owusu Amankwaa denied the allegations levelled against him, urging the election committee to respect the court order to avoid any contempt.
However, the Ashanti Regional Minister who is part of the election committee allowed Manhyia North Constituency executives to cast their vote despite the court injunction.
The Electoral Commission officers stopped conducting the election after the Manhyia North constituency executives were allowed to vote.
The election committee is now conducting the election.
