On this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” the leadership story of Akosua Ansah-Antwi reflects the idea that the more leaders invest in people, purpose, and values, the greater the impact they create. As Managing Director of Enterprise Insurance, she sits at the helm of one of Ghana’s most respected and leading private insurers, guiding a company whose 102 years legacy of service continues to deliver on its promise to customers—Your Advantage.
For Akosua, the journey to leadership has never been a straight line. She often reflects that at every stage of her life, she has been exactly where God intended her to be. Faith, family, and the many mentors who have shaped her along the way have been key influences in her growth. One of her fondest childhood memories dates to when she was just six or seven years old—spending Saturdays at the library with her mother. Those quiet reading sessions sparked a deep love for books and learning that would later define her academic and professional path.
Her educational journey reflects curiosity, discipline, and a global outlook. She began at Okuapemman School before moving to the United Kingdom for her A-Levels at Notre Dame Sixth Form College. She then studied law at University of Hull and returned to Ghana to complete her professional training at the Ghana School of Law. Determined to broaden her expertise, she earned a Diploma in Insurance from the West African Insurance College, became a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute, and later completed an MSc in Global Business at University of Salford. Each step added depth to her knowledge and strengthened the foundation for her leadership in the insurance industry.
Interestingly, insurance was not her childhood dream. Like many young girls, she once imagined becoming a flight attendant. But her love for reading, her naturally analytical mind, and a deep sense of fairness gradually steered her toward law. After qualifying as a barrister and solicitor, she sought a corporate legal role and applied to Enterprise Insurance. At the time, the company did not have an in-house legal department, so she was placed in the claims department—a moment that unexpectedly changed the trajectory of her career.
Today, Akosua describes her leadership style as one centered on empowering people and enabling growth. She believes leadership is a continuous journey of learning and collaboration, where the role of a leader is not only to guide but also to create the conditions for others to succeed. Her management philosophy is clear: people are the greatest asset of any organization. Creating an environment where voices are heard, ideas are welcomed, and accountability is upheld allows individuals to thrive and collectively move the organization forward.
As Enterprise Insurance enters its second century, she believes sustainable growth will depend on leaders who respect the company’s legacy while courageously embracing innovation. Listening deeply to employees and customers, adapting to a changing world, and fostering collaboration across the organization will be essential to ensuring the company remains strong for generations to come.
Her story embodies the essence of Give to Gain. By investing in people, knowledge, and values, Akosua Ansah-Antwi continues to lead a company that stands firmly for trust, excellence, and service—ensuring that for customers and communities alike, Enterprise Insurance remains Your Advantage.
