Orbit College have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Mohammed Abubakar on a loan deal from Ghana Premier League side Karela United, bolstering their squad ahead of the second round of the South African Premiership season.
The 25-year-old is a highly rated defensive asset in West African football, capable of operating either as a left-sided centre-back or in a holding midfield role.
His arrival provides crucial depth and flexibility for the Orbit College technical team as the club navigates a demanding maiden top-flight campaign.
Abubakar rose to continental prominence during his time with Dreams, where he played a key role in their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.
The highly-rated defender made six appearances for Dreams throughout the continental campaign.
Born in Takoradi in January 2000, Abubakar began his football journey in local youth teams before joining Unicon FC at the age of 16.
He later made his professional breakthrough with Karela in 2017.
For Orbit College, the signing signals clear intent. The North West-based side have conceded 28 goals in 16 matches and currently sit 14th on the league table with 13 points from four games.
With veteran defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele also in the squad, Abubakar is expected to play a key role in tightening the defence.
Orbit College next face Polokwane City away, as they look to move further clear of the relegation zone.
