Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has issued a strong call for Ghana to select only players at peak physical condition for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasising that fitness will be non-negotiable for the demanding tournament.
"We need a squad of fully fit players," Agyemang-Badu stated unequivocally. "Ghana cannot afford to just add up numbers, so any player carrying even a minor injury should be dropped."
The former national team star stressed that the logistical and physical challenges of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, make optimal fitness paramount.
His warning comes as Ghana prepares for a tough Group L, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.
While setting the team's primary target as advancing from the group stage, Agyemang-Badu insisted that achieving this goal starts with meticulous preparation and squad selection.
He also urged the team to focus intensely on their opening match, noting, "The Panama match will be challenging, and that's where our full concentration should be, not on England or Croatia."
His comments frame fitness and focus as the foundational pillars for any success the Black Stars hope to achieve as they aim to progress past the World Cup group stage for the first time since 2010.
