South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has declared that his country stands ready to host the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations amid growing uncertainty over Morocco's ability to stage the tournament.
Speaking at a press briefing, McKenzie made it clear that South Africa will not stand idly by while doubts persist over the North African nation's commitment.
"We are ready to host because we won't allow countries that don't have the same infrastructure as ours to hold us hostage because people can't make up their minds," he said.
The tournament is scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3 in Morocco, but persistent reports suggest the hosts may withdraw just weeks before kickoff. McKenzie pointed to South Africa's proven track record as a reason for confidence.
"We are ready because we have the stadiums, the people, infrastructure and transport system that are better than any country in Africa."
He also criticised the lack of visible preparation or marketing around the current host nation.
"There is no marketing around the tournament; there is nothing. I think we are dealing with a situation where it cannot be anyone but South Africa."
Ghana's Black Queens have qualified for the tournament after securing bronze at the last edition â their first podium finish since 2018. Nigeria are the defending champions.
CAF has yet to make an official decision, but McKenzie's message is unmistakable: South Africa is prepared, willing, and waiting.
