The 11th edition of the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup is set to take center stage at the Madina Astro Turf on Monday, March 23, 2026, bringing together communities in a vibrant celebration of football, unity, and cultural identity, with continued backing from the Ghana Football Association.
Organized under the theme “Bringing Zongo Communities Together,” this year’s tournament will feature sixteen (16) communities competing for top honours in what has become one of Ghana’s most impactful grassroots football initiatives.
The competition continues to serve as a powerful platform for promoting social cohesion, nurturing local talent, and strengthening bonds across Zongo communities nationwide.
The tournament is named in honour of the esteemed National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, whose influence and legacy have helped shape the competition into a respected annual tradition on the domestic football calendar.
Since its launch in 2015 at the GFA headquarters, the Ramadan Cup has enjoyed unwavering support from the Football Association, particularly in the provision of logistics and match officials—underscoring its commitment to grassroots football development.
The competition has also attracted notable contributions from Ghana’s football elite. Black Stars players Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana have lent their support by providing jerseys for participating teams, as well as sponsoring trophies and individual awards, further enhancing the tournament’s prestige and appeal.
Monday’s grand finale is expected to be a high-profile occasion, with GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo among the dignitaries slated to attend.
His presence, alongside other key figures from the football and Zongo communities, highlights the growing significance of the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup as both a sporting and cultural event.
