Mining company Gold Fields has announced a landmark sponsorship agreement worth USD 5 million over a two-year period to support Ghana football.
The sponsorship package, unveiled on Friday morning at the company’s headquarters in Accra, covers the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Challenge and the Ghana Women's Premier League.
The agreement is expected to provide significant financial and logistical support to the various national teams and women’s football development in the country.
Officials of the Ghana Football Association, representatives from Gold Fields, government dignitaries and stakeholders from the football fraternity attended the unveiling ceremony.
The sponsorship comes at a crucial period for Ghana football, with the Black Stars preparing for the upcoming FIFA World Cup while the Black Queens continue preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The inclusion of the Black Challenge in the sponsorship package has also been widely praised, highlighting a growing commitment towards inclusivity and support for para sports in Ghana.
Additionally, the deal is expected to boost the development and visibility of the Ghana Women's Premier League as women’s football continues to gain momentum across the country.
Speaking at the launch, officials described the partnership as one of the biggest corporate investments into Ghana football in recent years and expressed optimism that it would positively impact the performance and growth of the various teams and competitions under the agreement.
The partnership further strengthens the relationship between corporate Ghana and sports development, with hopes that more institutions will follow suit in supporting football and other sporting disciplines across the country.
