Referees from the Southern Sector have undergone a rigorous fitness test in Koforidua as part of the Ghana Football Association's preparations for the 2026/27 football season.
The fitness examination forms part of the mandatory assessment process for match officials seeking to qualify for appointments during the upcoming campaign.
The exercise followed the written examination conducted in Koforidua, with referees now required to demonstrate the speed, endurance and physical readiness needed to meet the demands of modern football officiating.
The assessment is designed to determine whether officials can maintain the required level of performance throughout matches, particularly as the pace and physical demands of the game continue to increase.
The fitness test is one of several requirements referees must satisfy before being cleared for appointments. Participants will also undergo further technical and professional assessments as the GFA Referees Department works towards finalising the list of officials eligible to officiate in the various competitions.
The ongoing programme reflects the GFA's commitment to improving refereeing standards through regular education, testing and physical conditioning.
The Koforidua exercise forms part of a wider nationwide assessment programme covering referees across Ghana's various sectors, with the process expected to produce a pool of technically sound, physically fit and professionally prepared match officials for the 2026/27 season.
