A Ghanaian resident in the United Kingdom (UK) who was recently elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Sekondi constituency in the upcoming 2024 election by name Blay Nyamekye Armah has disgracefully brought the hard-earned reputation of the Ghanaian Judiciary into disrepute.
Mr. Armah made the following derogatory remarks about the Ghanaian judiciary: “I am happy to be a Lawyer in the UK rather than your Makola-trained Lawyers and Judges who make references in Wikipedia which little kids in the UK don’t even use for research.”
He made the above unfortunate derogatory comments when a resident in Sekondi challenged him to prove publicly whether or not he is a trained and licensed lawyer in the UK as he claims to be.
Since then he has failed to publicly demonstrate to the good people of Sekondi whether he is a licensed and practicing lawyer in the UK as he and his supporters claim to be.
However, research into the UK Solicitors Register, https://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/register/, did not have any information on the self-styled “lawyer” Blay Nyamekye Armah who continues to carry himself as such since he declared his intentions to seek election as a Parliamentarian in 2024.
Disrespecting the Ghanaian Judiciary for self-gratification reasons is an act that every well-meaning citizen of Ghana must not countenance since it is an important arm of government that needs to be respected to ensure its credibility within our democratic dispensation as both a check to the other two arms of government (executive and parliamentary) as well as an avenue where people resort to seeking redress when they are aggrieved.
It would be recalled that a politician and an academic Professor Kpessa Whyte made similar comments and when he was hurled before the apex court he pleaded guilty upon his plea he was convicted and cautioned never to ridicule and disrespect the court again.
