In anticipation of the International Day of Education 2026, observed globally on Saturday, January 24, the Ghana Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) successfully organised a youth-focused educational dialogue on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Victory Standard School.
The programme was held in alignment with this year’s International Day of Education theme, “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education,” which emphasises the critical role young people play in shaping inclusive, relevant and responsive education systems.

The event brought together students who actively engaged in thoughtful discussions and idea-sharing sessions on key education-related topics. These included student agency and responsibility in education, how young people can shape the future of education and the importance of students having a strong voice in how education is designed and delivered. Participants confidently expressed their perspectives, demonstrating a clear understanding of their role as partners in the educational process rather than passive recipients.
A significant focus of the dialogue was also placed on inclusive education in Ghana. Students shared honest reflections on the current state of inclusivity within schools and proposed practical ideas on how education can better accommodate diverse learning needs, backgrounds and abilities. Their contributions highlighted the need for policies and learning environments that leave no child behind.
Speaking on the purpose of the programme, representatives of the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana emphasised that empowering young people to contribute to educational conversations is essential for sustainable development. The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to creating safe platforms where children and young people, especially girls, can express their views, build confidence and influence educational outcomes.

The Girls Education Initiative of Ghana extends its appreciation to Victory Standard School, participating students, teachers and partners for their support and active involvement. As the world marks the International Day of Education 2026, GEIG calls on stakeholders, policy-makers and educators to continue engaging youth as key partners in co-creating equitable and quality education systems.
