A former Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Sammy Crabbe has extended his congratulatory wishes to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his decisive victory in the NPP’s presidential primaries, on January 31, 2026.
In a congratulatory statement, the former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of NPP maintained that Dr. Bawumia’s victory reflects the confidence placed in his vision and leadership, calling for unity as the party restructure and position itself ahead of the 2028 general election.
Dr. Crabbe made a clarion call for genuine unity in the party, stressing that “uniting the party behind Dr. Bawumia for victory in 2028 will require unity, not uniformity.” According to him, the election results clearly indicate that the delegates are calling for unity and diversity of thoughts and ideas. He therefore declared his intention to contest the party’s chairmanship, promising to build lasting unity and steer the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.
He cited his experience garnered over years of leading and building cohesion from the NPP grassroots to the national party leadership, having risen from a constituency organiser to the coveted position of Second Vice Chairman of the most formidable, oldest and enduring political tradition in the country, the NPP.
Dr. Crabbe also congratulated the other contenders in the primary election: Kennedy Ohene Agyapong who finished second, followed by Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, for making the contest a rigorous one, further strengthening the party’s internal democracy.
He maintained that the party’s base is not lost, but “disengaged,” warning that the NPP supporters are “watching closely to see whether we have learned the lessons of the painful 2024 defeat. Words alone will not be enough,” he said, calling for an overhaul of the party leadership to build trust through “fairness, tolerance, inclusion, representation, and the clear sense among members that the party sees them, values them, remembers them, and rewards them fairly.”
Dr. Crabbe emphasised that his candidature is not an ambitious pursuit but a necessity. “The next set of party executives will be decisive. We have little time and cannot afford trial and error,” he asserted, positioning himself as the experienced one to muster the party’s grassroots support, build cohesion to increase the party’s electoral fortunes come 2028. He noted that the Greater Accra Region is central to national success of the NPP, saying “weak performance there places unsustainable pressure on Ashanti, even as Ashanti margins are under strain”.
“To win nationally, we must stabilise Ashanti, regain competitiveness in Accra, and strengthen the party across all regions.” He therefore touted himself as the one capable of galvanising support for the party in the Greater Accra Region, nationally and other swing regions, essential for the party’s success in the 2028 election. Dr. Crabbe concluded with his slogan, “United in Purpose, Unstoppable in Action”.
