The Twin-City of Sekondi-Takoradi is set to host hundreds of Lions, Leo Lions and Leos from across the country as the 7th Convention of Lions Clubs International District 418 Ghana comes off from May 28-30, 2026.
On the theme “Every Lion Counts”, the 2026 convention is expected to blend leadership, community service, health outreach and strategic planning as the district intensifies efforts toward Mission 1.5 – a global membership drive aimed at reaching 1.5 million Lions worldwide by June 2027.
For the first time, the convention is being hosted in Takoradi; a move organisers believe will broaden participation and expose delegates to the region’s tourism and cultural heritage.
The incoming District Governor, Lion Ebo Pra Manson, in an interview with the B&FT, said the convention will not only deepen fellowship among members but also shape the future direction of the organisation through key elections and policy decisions.
“This convention is about recognising that every Lion is needed, important and valued in achieving our service goals and expanding our impact in communities,” he stated.
The event, according to him, will feature discussions on membership growth, leadership development, recognition schemes and grant opportunities available through the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).
He said in a major boost to the convention’s international profile, an LCIF officer from Oak Brook, Illinois, is expected to attend and engage members on how to leverage global funding opportunities to scale up humanitarian projects.
One of the convention’s headline activities, he explained, will be a district-led service project at the historic stilt community of Nzulezu, where Lions members will donate an outboard motor canoe and other items to support residents.
He pointed out that health and safety have also been prioritised for this year’s gathering.
“An ambulance will, for the first time, be stationed at the venue throughout the convention, while free medical screening exercises will be conducted for three days. Another major attraction will be the return of the colourful Lions parade through the streets of Takoradi on May 30,” he added.
Beyond the networking and celebrations, he said delegates are expected to elect a new District Governor, Vice District Governors, Zone Chairpersons and Leo District Officers to steer the affairs of the district for the next service year.
“We believe the convention will reinforce the organisation’s commitment to service, leadership and community impact,” he concluded.
