Caleb Yirenkyi
Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has praised Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi following his impressive start to life at the Championship club.
Yirenkyi made an immediate impact on his debut, providing an assist as Coventry secured a 2-0 pre-season victory over AS Monaco.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined Coventry from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland in a club-record transfer reportedly worth $30 million, despite strong interest from several clubs across Europe.
His reputation had already grown considerably following an impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with Ghana, further establishing him as one of the Black Stars’ brightest young talents.
Lampard believes Coventry have made a significant addition and is confident Yirenkyi can develop into an important player for the club.
“We’ve got a belief in Caleb here. He’s a player that we’re happy to have brought to the club because he was well wanted by many clubs probably around Europe. We sold the project to him,” Lampard told Coventry City media.
“He’s a good, talented player; he’s young. This boy, we believe, is going to really build his career, so he’s a big addition to the club. I think we saw signs of that; hopefully we see a lot more.”
Yirenkyi is expected to feature when Coventry open their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Friday, with Lampard set to look to the Ghanaian’s energy, creativity and technical ability in midfield.
