Goethe Institute holds reading competition at Abokobi
Accra, Nov. 23 GNA – The Goethe Institute, a German Cultural organization on Friday held a reading competition among three basic schools in Abokobi, a suburb of Ga East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.
The competition was done in collaboration with the Ghana Library Authority, Ghana Education Service Abokobi District, Kenkan Foundation and Writers Project of Ghana.
The programme, which is the third of its kind, brought about 400 school pupils from the various schools.
Mrs Rebecca Aku Adamah, Programme Assistant of the Institute, said there was the need for teachers and parents to sacrifice for their wards and urged the students to be committed to reading books.
Mr Guy Amarteifio, Greater Accra Regional Librarian, advised parents to encourage their children to read rather than buying movies for them.
Mr Amarteifio said reading broadens the minds as they climb the educational ladder.
Mr Nii Samuel Adjetey Mohenu, Chief of Abokobi, expressed his appreciation to the organisers of the event for his area.
Participating schools included the Pantang Municipal Primary and Junior High School, Abokobi Presby Primary and Junior High School, Pantang Presby Primary and Junior High school.
