Bechem United assistant coach Mallam Yahaya has argued that the team did not deserve to lose 6-0 to Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League Week 16 fixture.
Nicknamed the Hunters, Bechem United were in Kumasi on Sunday and played against the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
In a game where Bechem United hit the goal post five times, the team suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat to the Reds.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Mallam Yahaya admitted that his team needs to improve, but stressed that they did not deserve the big loss to Asante Kotoko.
“I don’t think the score line is a reflection of how the team played. I think it was a bad day for the team, especially the defenders. You can see Kotoko played the counter play, they took their chances, and they punished us,” Mallam Yahaya said.
The Bechem United assistant coach added, “We played very football but they scored because the mentality of our team is down. You could see the motivation of Kotoko; it was better than ours.”
The huge defeat to Kotoko means Bechem United must continue to fight to escape relegation when the second round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League commences in January 2026.
