Hohoe United have their back against the wall and they must conjure magic to upend their regional rivals Heart of Lions at home on Friday, 2 January 2026 in the first fixture to kick off the week 17 schedule.
The newcomers are deep in the relegation fight and need the points to pull away from the drop.
Hohoe United are placed 16th on the table with 17 points after 16 matches- not good enough.
Last week, their trip to Basake Holy Stars was enveloped with a 2-0 defeat and they know they must bounce back.
Hohoe United Head Coach Tijani Bashiru said in his pre-match speech: “We are playing against a team that have similar problem like us-We all lost in our last week games so that will tell you how difficult this encounter will be but we are playing home but then we have the right mentality to win here so we have to work very hard for that especially when it comes to all aspects of the game we have to improve especially when it comes to scoring opportunities."
Ahead of the Volta derby, Hohoe United announced the signing of center back Emmanuel Kyeremeh to strengthen their backline.
He has joined them on a long-term deal from the Togolese top-flight side AS Gbohloe-Su.
Heart of Lions were shocked 1-0 on home soil last week to Medeama and that is enough reminder they need improvement.
That notwithstanding, they lie 8th on the league table.
Head Coach Bashiru Hayford: We have to make sure we lift up our game and so all our preparations we’ve made is to lift up our game and to make sure we end the first round of the league well.’’
