Raheem Ayew, the eldest of the Ayew brothers, believes his youngest sibling. Jordan Ayew, was the rightful heir to the captaincy following the absence of Andre Ayew.
The Black Stars captaincy generated huge controversy after Ghana coach Otto Addo decided to drop veteran forward and substantive skipper Andre from his team during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the 2026 World Cup race.
He first named Thomas Partey as captain with Jordan and Alexander Djiku as his deputies, but after a torrid AFCON qualifiers which saw the Black Stars fail to make it to the tournament in Morocco, Addo switched leadership roles in the team, making the Leicester City forward his skipper.
"From the beginning, since he got the captainship, I was very proud of him because he deserves it. He was the oldest there and everything and everything so I was very proud and I said, 'finally it has come to the owner'," he told 3 Sports.
"It has to go the right way and as soon as it got to the right person, we were there.
"If Andre is not there, it has to be Jordan."
Jordan led the Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring seven goals and delivering seven assists in 9 games.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L of the 2026 World Cup in North America alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
