Danish-Ghanaian midfielder Nikolas Nartey enjoyed a special evening for VfB Stuttgart.
The 25-year-old scored the decisive 3-2 goal in the home win over Eintracht Frankfurt, his first-ever competitive strike for the Swabians.
In recent weeks, Nartey had increasingly earned a place in Sebastian HoeneÃ’ starting XI, but this time he came off the bench. That role was planned: because of his long injury history, Stuttgart are still managing his workload carefully, and he was dealing with a minor physical issue ahead of the match.
All the more emotional was the fact that he became the matchwinner. Hoeneà expressed his satisfaction afterward and emphasized that the goal would “inspire” Nartey. Although the coach was not entirely happy with every aspect of his substitute’s performance, he underlined that Nartey once again showed his quality, having already impressed in the recent away game at Leverkusen.
For HoeneÃ, there is no doubt about Nartey’s importance when he is fit and playing freely; in that case, he is “a huge win” for the team. The joy in the dressing room was accordingly huge after his first VfB goal decided such an important match, symbolizing the hard road back Nartey has traveled.
