Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has expressed confidence in the Black Queens as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The national team, drawn into a challenging Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde, will face stiff competition, but Okraku believes the Queens are ready to contend for the trophy.
“The ambition of the nation is to win the trophy [WAFCON]. And I think that we are not far away from that,” Okraku stated.
Ghana enter the tournament buoyed by a strong performance at the 2024 WAFCON, also in Morocco, where they claimed third place after defeating South Africa in the bronze medal match.
That finish marked a return to prominence for the Queens and set the stage for their ambitions in 2026.
Beyond continental success, WAFCON also offers a pathway back to the global stage. Reaching the semi-finals guarantees qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, a feat Ghana last achieved in 2007.
With a talented squad and growing momentum, the Black Queens will be eager to go one step further when the 2026 WAFCON kicks off from March 17 to April 3.
