Luton Town will have leading scorer Gideon Kodua available for Saturday’s trip to Plymouth Argyle, with head coach Jack Wilshere playing down concerns over the Ghana forward’s fitness while stressing the need for careful workload management during a demanding period.
Kodua has been one of Town’s standout performers this season, emerging as Wilshere’s most reliable attacking outlet with ten goals overall, including five in his last four appearances.
His early withdrawal in the second half of last weekend’s 2-2 draw with promotion-chasing Lincoln City, however, sparked anxiety among supporters wary of losing their most potent threat.
Wilshere moved quickly to clarify the situation, insisting the decision was precautionary rather than enforced by injury.
“He’s fine. Well, I say he’s fine. He’s doubled the minutes he’s ever played in his career already this season, so he’s someone we’re looking at that is obviously so important to us and gives us goal threat, and now he’s our top goal scorer,” the Luton boss explained.
The former Arsenal midfielder underlined the club’s long-term view with the young attacker, balancing protection with development.
“We’re looking at ways to help Gids and protect him and try and also develop him because he’s still young and he needs to understand that you’re not always going to feel perfect, your body won’t always feel great,” Wilshere added.
“We don’t want to take any risk with him, but that was the reason he was taken off.”
