Stoke City have bolstered their attacking options with the Deadline Day signing of highly-rated winger Ato Ampah from Premier League giants Chelsea, completing the deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old England Under-20 international has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract, committing his future to the Potters as the Championship side continues its rebuild with an eye on youthful, high-potential talents.
Ampah arrives at the bet365 Stadium after spending eight years at Chelsea, having joined the Blues’ academy at the age of 11.
He made his senior debut last season in the UEFA Conference League, underlining the regard in which he was held at Stamford Bridge.
Renowned for his pace, direct running and attacking output, the winger boasts an impressive academy record.
Across 41 starts for Chelsea’s Under-18, Under-21 and UEFA Youth League sides, Ampah registered 19 goals and 18 assists, numbers that caught the attention of Stoke’s recruitment team.
Sporting Director Jonathan Walters confirmed the club’s long-standing interest in the teenager, describing him as a player with a “strong mentality” and the kind of wide attacker capable of exciting supporters.
Walters added that Ampah fits Stoke's profile for wide players and believes the youngster will continue to develop within the first-team environment.
Speaking after completing the move, Ampah expressed his excitement at beginning a new chapter in the Potteries, citing Stoke’s reputation for nurturing young talent as a key reason behind his decision.
Hungry and determined, the teenage winger will now look to make the step into regular senior football, with Stoke supporters eager to see what the former Chelsea prospect can deliver in red and white.
