Former Asante Kotoko captain Justice Blay has begun training with Ugandan Premier League side NEC FC, signaling a possible new chapter in his professional career after leaving the Porcupine Warriors last year.
The experienced defensive midfielder, now 33, has been spotted in NEC colours as the club continues preparations ahead of the next phase of the season.
While an official announcement is yet to be made, Blay’s presence in training has fueled speculation that talks are progressing well between the two parties.
Blay brings with him a wealth of experience at both club and international level.
He made his Black Stars debut against Sao Tome and PrÃncipe during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, a reward for his consistent performances in the Ghana Premier League.
His journey with Kotoko began during the 2019/2020 season, when he joined the Kumasi-based giants on loan from Medeama SC.
Blay quickly won over the Kotoko faithful, scoring two goals in 12 appearances and delivering commanding midfield performances.
His impact convinced the club to secure his services permanently in 2021.
Over the next four years, Blay made 56 league appearances for Kotoko, frequently wore the captain’s armband, and played a key role in the club’s domestic league and cup campaigns.
He officially parted ways with Kotoko in June last year, ending a memorable spell marked by leadership and commitment.
A move to NEC would offer Blay a fresh challenge outside Ghana, as the Ugandan side looks to bolster its squad with experience and leadership.
