Watford FC have bolstered their midfield options with the loan signing of Ghanaian international Pierre Ekwah from French Ligue 1 club AS Saint-Ãtienne for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
The 24-year-old arrives at Vicarage Road with significant experience in the EFL Championship, having made over 50 appearances for AFC Sunderland.
Ekwah, who will wear the number 17 shirt, provides valuable second-tier know-how and physical presence for the Golden Boys' campaign. The deal includes an option for Watford to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Ekwah’s international background adds an interesting dimension to his profile. Born in France, the midfielder is of dual Ghanaian and Cameroonian descent and is eligible to represent either country at the senior international level, although he has previously featured for France at the youth level.
This heritage highlights a player with diverse footballing influences and potential future options on the global stage.
His addition strengthens the Hornets' squad depth as they look to navigate the demanding Championship schedule and push for promotion under manager Xisco Muñoz.
