The University of Ghana (UG) has officially launched the second edition of its Corporate Football League.
The launch took place at a press event held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the VIP Lounge of the University of Ghana Stadium.
The Corporate Football League forms part of the university’s continued efforts to promote sports participation, wellness and stronger corporate engagement within the university community and its affiliated institutions.
Tuesday’s launch ceremony was attended by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, representatives of participating corporate organisations, key stakeholders and members of the media.
The occasion was used to outline plans for the new season, which is scheduled to run from February to June 2026.
Organised by the University of Ghana Sports Directorate in collaboration with RITE Sports Services, the second edition of the Corporate Football League will feature 18 corporate teams.
The competition is expected to deliver regular football action while strengthening collaboration among corporate institutions operating within and around the university environment.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Dr Fred Awaah, highlighted the wider impact of the league beyond the pitch.
“This goes beyond football. It is about wellness, recreation, and overall well-being. As a government, we have consistently supported the use of sports as a tool for recreation and healthy living,” he said.
Dr. Awaah added, “What the University of Ghana is doing is commendable, and we call on partners to support this important initiative.”
According to the organisers, the second edition of the league will place greater emphasis on professionalism and competitiveness, building on the success recorded during the maiden edition.
The competition is scheduled to kick off on Friday, February 13, and is designed to provide a structured platform for corporate institutions to promote staff wellness, encourage networking and foster a vibrant sporting culture within the university setting.
