Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has refused to dwell on his side's alarming winless run, instead shifting focus to the nine remaining fixtures that will decide the Ghana Premier League title.
The league leaders suffered a bizarre 2-1 home defeat to Hohoe United at the TNA Stadium, extending their winless streak to five games. Despite playing with a man advantage, Medeama missed a penalty, conceded an own goal, and watched goalkeeper Felix Kyei's spot-kick rebound off the post in a sequence that defied explanation.
Yet remarkably, they remain top of the standings by a single point after second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars also dropped points against Young Apostles.
Speaking after the latest setback, Tanko acknowledged the difficulty but stressed the bigger picture.
"We still have nine games to play," he told the club's media.
"I have been in this game for a long time and this kind of day happens sometimes. It's not normal that you miss a penalty, you give away a goal and another own goal. Definitely it's difficult for you to win."
The former Black Stars assistant coach indicated that discussions with his players will be crucial in the coming days.
"I think I have to meet with the players and then see the way forward."
With nine games remaining and the title race wide open, Tanko's message is clear: the past cannot be changed, but the future remains in Medeama's hands.
