Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has voiced opposition to making significant changes to the Black Stars squad, insisting that the current group of players has earned the right to lead the nation into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Asempa FM, the veteran forward praised the resilience of the team following a successful qualification campaign.
Despite the team’s failure to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Ayew believes the squad has turned a corner under head coach Otto Addo, developing a level of chemistry that should not be disrupted by new arrivals.
"I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well," Ayew stated. "I don’t think we need any additions. I believe we have a good team, and as time goes on, we are improving.
“The unity is getting better and everything is improving. I don’t think this is the right time to make changes."
Ayew, who has been instrumental in Ghana's resurgence by recording 14 goal contributions during the qualifiers, emphasized that while technical decisions rest with the coaching staff, the "core" of the team is already established.
His comments come amid public debate regarding whether the Ghana Football Association should pursue dual-nationality players to bolster the roster.
"To be honest, on the technical side, the coach will know whom to attach or select," he added.
Ghana is in World Cup Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
