Former Ghana international Daniel Opare has offered a straightforward piece of advice to the handlers of the Black Stars as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup: build around consistent performers and maintain stability in the squad.
In an exclusive interview with 3Sports, the former Real Madrid defender acknowledged that Ghana has no shortage of talented players but argued that a lack of continuity has prevented the team from becoming a cohesive unit.
"We have the players. We have the talents, but we haven't gotten a team yet. I think that's the problem," Opare said.
He urged the technical team to avoid frequent changes that disrupt chemistry and understanding on the pitch. "They should sustain them for a while. Sometimes, the changes are too much, which affects the team. If the player is doing good for his club, we keep him. We build the team around them."
Opare, who retired from football in 2025 after earning 19 caps for Ghana, cautioned that expectations must be realistic. He suggested that reaching the knockout rounds would be a solid achievement, given the current stage of the team's development.
"If we are able to get out of the group stage, Ghanaians should be happy because this is the time we have to build the team around these boys. They are good players. I'm not going to take it away from them," he added.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L of the 2026 World Cup alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17.
